Wizkid’s Success Story

Uhmmm, I got the inspiration for this post as at a time I didn’t even envisage having a blog(2015 to be precise) decided to share because I feel someone will find it inspiring.

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear that name?

For me he’s an epitome of growth and talent.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun born 16th July 1990 started chasing dreams and craving for success in the hood of shitta,Surulere.

In 2009, he got signed to empire mates entertainment (EME). I still remember the first day I heard “holla at your boy”,I was stunned by his musical prowess.

In 2011,his first single earned him the headies next rated award and same year he released his debut album “SUPERSTAR” that contained hit songs like Don’t dull and Pakuromo.

In 2014, his contract with EME was close to expiration and news that he started his own conglomerate STARBOY records caused major waves even though he was just waiting out his contract at EME.

To be honest, I thought he wouldn’t survive considering how much growth and exposure he enjoyed under banky w(what could be better).he took the risk anyways.

After signing L.A.X,maleek berry and legendary beats to the team, he released his first song under starboy records,  they smelled justification of actions apart from that, they were proper songs from production to mixing and mastering.

In 2014,he released his sophomore album AYO that featured world class songs like ojuelegba, joy, jaiye-jaiye. But here’s the twist, in between these positives, a lot went down from having a baby mama,to been compared with Davido and to davido been in the limelight of Nigerian music to his changing managers and pushing his music beyond African borders.

As at a time, he stopped having nominations for awards in Nigeria until his breakthrough came.
Winning the Bet awards acted like a springboard towards better heights from endorsement deals with MTN, PEPSI and later GLO, to having a song and going on tour with Chris Brown to Skepta and Drake jumping on ojuelegba remix to Alicia Keys dancing to it.

Until his “MIA days” started paying off from hit songs like RE-Up and Soweto baby to been featured on Drake’s One Dance that topped the billboard charts.
I’m sure only a few noticed that in 2016, Wizkid didn’t release a single except refixs and features but still won 4 awards from Headies artist of the year to MTV’s Best male to soundcity’s best male and African artist of the year.

What else could have brought such magnitude of success if not hard work, talent and consistency.
I have learnt a lot of lessons through the journey.
To every dream chaser “Between GOALS and ACHIEVEMENT is DISCIPLINE and CONSISTENCY”
Till my next post.keep doing you papi.
