Funny thing I noticed is that cars produced 7-10 years ago, are the ones people brag with in my city. *talk about survival.
Part of the reasons I decided to chase a career in cars was/is my ability to recognize cars with little or no clue even at night. So for a while now it’s been difficult for me when it comes to some series of Benz. I know their differences are either facelifts or model years but it’s pretty herculean to decipher which is which. So I plan to clarify this mystery to help with those sleek Mercedes you see in town especially if you live in Nigeria.
Now these cars we encounter daily are majorly the E, C, & S series of luxury sedans & executive cars.
Mercedes Benz E class
The E initially stood for EINSPRITZMOTOR (German for fuel injection). It was a new feature in volume production of vehicles at the time that the E class first appeared, with the E as a suffix e.g 230 E. It was until the launch of the facelifted W124 that the E was used as a prefix i.e E 220 and the model referred to officially as the E class or E klasse.
It possessed new features like blind spot monitor, lane keeping assist & Night view assist.
The front fascia was heavily restyled, giving it a more aggressive look. It’s biggest change was the singular front lights with LED DRLs (daytime running lamps).
Mercedes Benz C-Class
It was introduced as a replacement for the W201.The C-Class has been available with a 4Matic option.
It has an extended wheelbase and track, a stiffer bodyshell and a design inspired by the W221 S-class. The C class received a facelift in 2011 for the 2012 model year including new LED taillights, a revised dashboard and instrument cluster layout.
Mercedes Benz S-Class (Luxury Sedan)
Formerly known as Sonderklasse (German for special class) is a series of luxury flagship vehicles. The S class designation for the top-of-the-line Mercedes Benz models was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116 has remained in use ever since.
The S-class has ranked as the world’s best selling luxury sedan.
New features includes large fornt grill,LED lights used inside and out-a first in the automotive industry, powered by a twin turbo V8 engine that produces 455hp. One thing I noticed, any car without a v6 engine isn’t fuel efficient. *side note.
Almost every surface is covered by a luxury material -everything that looks like leather is genuine leather and metal is used rather than any plastic alternative.
With these, I think I have done justice to your confusion of differentiating facelifts and model years.
Till my next post.
