Car tuning is like bespoke tailoring. Custom made, purpose built and relating to ones personal preference. Most vehicles leave the factory set up for an average driver’s expectations and conditions.
Tuning, on the other hand, has become a way to personalize the characteristics of a vehicle to the owner’s preference. Cars may be altered to provide better fuel economy, produce more power, or to provide better handling and driving.
The essence of modification of a tuner car is an attempt to extract the greatest possible performance from the base motor vehicle through the addition, alteration or outright replacement of parts. Although this largely involves modifying the engine and management systems of the vehicle to increase the power output. But I’d talk briefly on 5 existing tuning companies in the world.
1. Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH & Co. KG.
It is an automobile manufacturing company based in Buchloe, in the Ostallgäu district of Bavaria, Germany that develops and sells high-performance versions of BMW cars. Founded in 1965, Alpina works closely with BMW and their processes are integrated into BMW’s production lines, thus Alpina is recognized by the German Ministry of Transport as an automobile manufacturer, in contrast to other performance specialists which are aftermarket tuners.
2. BRABUS GmbH.
Founded 1977 in Bottrop(Ruhr Area), Germany, is a high-performanceaftermarket tuning company which specializes in Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Tesla and Maybach vehicles. Brabus became the largest Mercedes tuner, other than Mercedes-AMG which became a Daimler Chrysler affiliate in the 1990s. Brabus’s primary focus is to achieve maximum engine performance through the increase of horsepower and torque. Customers can either buy cars from Brabus, or send in their car to be customized and/or overhauled. Customers ordering a car directly involves Brabus purchasing a particular model from Mercedes and then modifying it according to the customer’s requests. Brabus is known for providing expensive tuning and custom solutions.
3. Nismo (abbreviated from Nissan Motorsport International Limited)
Is the in-house tuning, motorsports and performance division of Nissan. In 1984, Nissan decided that it wanted to merge its two motorsport divisions, founded through the 1960s, they were Oppama Works (known as were Oppama Works (known as Publication Division 3), based in its Oppama factory, responsible for the needs of privateer teams and Ōmori Works (Special Car Testing Division), within its Ōmori plant, responsible for itsfactory operations. The company’s intention following the merger was to specialize in sportscar racing, but it also provided support for teams competing in the domestic F3 series.
4. Mansory.
Mansory is a luxury car modification firm based in Brand, Germany. Besides luxury cars, they also work on supercars, luxury SUV and custom bikes. The company was founded in 1989 by Kourosh Mansory. His Munich-based workshop focused on modifications for British brands such as Rolls Royce and Italian brands such as Ferrari. By mid-2001, the company had grown out of its Munich workshop and moved to its headquarters in Fichtelgebirge. The company currently operates out of a workshop in Brand, Germany. Mansory are renowned for their expertise in carbon fibre design and construction. They are notable for outlandish body modifications, light weight alloy wheels and bespoke interior modifications.
5. Hennessey Performance Engineering.
Established in 1991 by John Hennessey, it is an American tuning house specializing in modifying sports and super cars from several brands like Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren,Chevrolet, Dodge, Cadillac, Lotus, Jeep, Ford,GMC, Lincoln and Lexus.
This firm focuses on mechanical component modification for creating high-powered cars. Besides performance automobiles, they also tune sport utility vehicles such as Ford Raptors and Jeep Cherokees. They also work on luxury cars like Bentleys and muscle carslike the Dodge Charger and Challenger.
